How it works

Digital Model
Everything starts with a 3D model, typically an STL or STEP file created in CAD software. The model defines the exact geometry of the part before anything is printed.
Slicing
Slicer software translates the 3D model into a set of instructions for the printer. It determines layer height, print speed, infill pattern and density, wall thickness, and where to generate support structures for overhanging geometry.
Extrusion
The printer melts a plastic filament and deposits it through a nozzle along the paths defined by the slicer. Each pass lays down one thin layer, which fuses to the layer below as it cools. This repeats hundreds or thousands of times until the part is complete.
Finishing
Once printed, the part is removed from the build plate and any support material is cleared away. Depending on the application, parts may be sanded, primed, or hardware-inserted to meet final tolerance and finish requirements.
